Simply put, I want to be a better writer. I want to articulate myself better.
Most times, my mind feels like a disorganised mess. I wanna get better at dealing with it, organising my thoughts and expressing them.
I consume too much information from multiple sources. I want to make some time for reflection as well and write about the things that interest me. Plus, the time I spend writing with a pen on paper is the time I spend away from screens.
I like sitting down and writing. I actually started journalling regularly about a year ago and I’ve grown to love it. I don’t do it as much as I’d like to but I get value out of it.
Now, I want to write to publish to a wider audience. I want to be able to condense complicated things and distil them into coherent and concise pieces.
The recent advancements with text-based LLMs like GPT-4 made me think of the power of text and language. I remember being blown away when I was reading some great writers. Some of my favourite authors Murakami, Fredrik Backman, and Cixin Liu made me feel things just with their words. But it took me a while to grok this idea and feel it in my bones. It’s amazing what writers can do by stringing together some words in a particular order.
Also, I want to stop letting my perfectionism lead me to inaction. I want to be okay with publishing things even if they’re imperfect. My goal is to write 100 articles in the coming year on my interests and the things I’m consuming.
Initially, I was gonna make my own website and a blog but I kept procrastinating on it. I bought a domain but the logistics of setting everything up seemed to stop me from actually writing and publishing. So I’ve decided to just start writing in Substack. It’s convenient and provides all the necessary features. I can always link these posts back to my website in the future if needed.
I hope to make this a regular habit and I’ll end with this great quote.
